About

Whitney Arlana (b. 1994) is a Melbourne-based photographer whose work explores the intersection of personal narrative and broader social contexts. She completed a Bachelor of Photography (Documentary) at Photography Studies College in 2016.

In 2018, Whitney lived and worked in South Korea, producing The Screw of a Door’s Latch, a project responding to the rise of spy-camera use in the country at the time. After returning to Melbourne, the onset of the pandemic marked an unexpected pause in her photographic practice as she shifted focus toward building a stable career.

By 2025, the absence of creative interrogation became increasingly loud. Whitney’s return to photography is not nostalgic but necessary. It is her way to express critically and emotionally, to confront the overlooked structures that shape contemporary life.
